Milan Rakovac

Milan Rakovac was born in 1939 in Rakovci near Poreč. He is a Croatian novelist, poet, writer and journalist. He went to primary school and high school in Pula and Zagreb. Graduated from the Naval Academy in Divulje. After his military service, he held political positions in Pula and Rijeka. He was the editor-in-chief of the Pula daily Glas Istre. He spent most of his working life until his retirement at Television Zagreb (Croatian Television) as an editor and author of notable documentaries, cover stories and interviews. Permanently present in public and cultural life with topics of Istrian and generally ‘Adriatic’ identity, borders, Croatian-Italian-Slavic relations, history of fascism and anti-fascism. Active in the ranks of the Čakavski sabor, Matica Hrvatska and Croatian Writers Society, member of the editorial board of the magazines Istra, Nova Istra, La Battana, columnist for Glas Istre... Founder and programme manager of the International Border Meetings Forum Tomizza (Umag, Kopar, Trieste). Co-author or author of monographs and lyrics of popular music and translator from the Italian language. Several of his texts were also put on stage.
