Manuel Šumberac
Manuel Šumberac was born in 1988 in Pula. He has a master’s degree in animated film and new media from the Academy of Fine Arts of the University of Zagreb. The author of animated films, music videos, commissioned films, children’s books, book covers... He collaborates with a number of renowned publishers in Croatia and abroad, from the USA to the United Kingdom, France, Austria and The Netherlands. So far, he has created five author’s books for children: Steampunk City: An Alphabetical Journey (2014), Potraga (2019), Het wachten waard (2020, Belgium), Plavi cvijet (2020 ) and Vrlo zapetljan čvor (2021). He collaborated on a large number of books for children and novels and collections of stories for young people, published by local and foreign publishers. He is also the author of five short animated films, a series of animated music videos, and a large number of commissioned animated films. He has received multiple awards for his work, the most significant of which being the Grigor Vitez Award – for illustration for younger children in 2019 for the illustrations in his book Potraga, and the Grigor Vitez Award – for illustration for older children in 2017, for illustrations in the book Jura i kuckalo protiz dosade by Roman Simić. As an associate, he teaches at the Academy of Fine Arts, University of Zagreb, at the Department of Animated Film and New Media.
