Andriy Lyubka
Andriy Lyubka is a Ukrainian poet, writer, and essayist born in 1987. In 2023, the newspaper Ukrainska Pravda included him in its list of "100 Leaders of Ukraine," and the Aspen Institute awarded him the "Kyiv" prize. He is a member of the committee for the national "Taras Shevchenko" award. Ljubka was educated at a military school in Mukachevo and holds degrees in Ukrainian Philology from Uzhhorod University and Balkan Studies from the University of Warsaw. He is the author of poetry collections such as Osam mjeseci šizofrenije (Eight Months of Schizophrenia, 2007), Terorizam (Terrorism, 2009), and 40 dolara uz napojnicu (Forty Bucks Plus Tip, 2012), as well as the short story collection Ubojica (2012), a collection of poems translated into German („Notaufnahme“, Austria, 2012), and a collection of essays „Spavati sa ženama“. His novel Karbid (2015) was selected among the top five books by BBC Ukraine and its Polish translation was shortlisted for the Angelus Award in 2017. His other works include Soba za tugu (A Room for Sorrow, 2016), Saudade (2017), the novel Your Gaze, Cio-Cio-San (2018), the travel essay In Search of Barbarians (2019), Mali ukrajinski roman (2020), the essay collection Something is Wrong with Me (2022), and the nonfiction work War from the Rear (2024). Lyubka has been awarded the "Debut" prize, the "Kyiv Lawry" prize, the Kovalev Foundation award, and the Shevelov Award for the best Ukrainian collection of essays in 2017. He is a member of PEN Ukraine and lives in Uzhhorod.
