The 22nd Book Fair(y) in Istria – Festival of Books and Authors was officially proclaimed open by the Syrian poet Adonis, author of 30 poetry collections and 29 essay collections, professor at the Sorbonne University in Paris, for whom this was the first appearance in Croatia and the broader region. The focus of the central theme of the Fair – Transatlantic – were the Spanish and Portuguese authors, whereas the new program of the Fair – Ljubljana Reads – was dedicated to the Slovenian ones.
Judging by the number of female authors, it could be said that this edition of the Fair was ruled by women, to mention only a few: Inês Pedrosa, Teresa Salema, Bejan Matur, Metka Krašovec, Alenka Sottler, Hana Stupica, Svetlana Makarovič, Svetlana Slapšak, Maja Gal Štromar, Agata Tomažič, Mojca Kumedrej, Tatjana Gromača, Slađana Bukovac, Evelina Rudan, Lucía Etxebarría, Slavenka Drakulić etc.
The selector of the program that explored the central theme of the Fair and a translator from Portuguese, Tanja Tarbuk, brought a great number of prominent Portuguese, African, and Brasilian authors to Pula, headed by the finalist of the Booker Prize, Angolan writer José Eduardo Agualusa who presented his book A General Theory of Oblivion.
